Art of Enlightenment

  • It remains for us, in order to complete the man, only to make a loving and feeling being that is to say, to perfect reason by sentiment. — Jean-Jacques Rousseau
  • Art is the daughter of freedom. — Friedrich Schiller
  • Let us trust only in ourselves; let us see everything with our own eyes. — Voltaire
  • Have the courage to use your own understanding! — Immanuel Kant
  • But the knowledge that results from the free action of thought is at once the delight and the indestructible prerogative of man. — Alexander Von Humboldt
  • It is not the truth itself, in whose possession a person is or believes to be, that constitutes the value of. The human being, but rather the genuine effort that the person applies in order to get behind the truth. — Gotthold Ephraim Lessing

The Age of Enlightenment was a period of radical change in Europe where the course for the modern world was set. The old order, governed by the clergy and nobility, fell apart. Human beings became the focus of science, philosophy and art. The fine arts acquired a new significance: they became an instrument of aesthetic education and instruction. Developments in technology and social change accelerated the dissemination of images in all domains of the public sphere. New pictorial themes attracted a new audience. The notion that art could change people and society became the guiding principle of the age. To the present day, this idea has shaped European perceptions of art and the way artists see themselves. The exhibition explores the central motifs and ideas, themes and concerns of The Art of the Enlightenment with masterpiece from the national museums in Berlin, Dresden and Munich.

Tips:

  • 票价为人民币叁拾圆整(CNY30.00,约合USD4.60)。
